"So . . . how badly do you want
a job?''

Do any of the following apply to you?

  • Fed up explaining why you haven't found work to the Jobcentre staff.
  • Can't pay the bills because there's not enough money coming in.
  • You can't go on holiday because you've no income to pay for it.
  • You feel demoralised because you can't seem to find a job.
  • Your job applications keep getting rejected.
If you answered YES to any of these then there's some good news for you.

However, there's a slight problem

In a few moments, I'm going to show you how to get a job, faster than you ever thought possible.  But, before I do, let me share with you some unfortunate statistics:
  • Nearly 60% of people would choose a different career if they were given the chance to start their lives all over again.  (Source: www.telegraph.co.uk).  This indicates that most people are unhappy with their jobs and are likely to be looking for other opportunities.
  • Unemployment rate for the three months to February 2010 was 2.5 million,  Of which 1.22 million have been unemployed for 6 months or more (Source: www.statistics.gov.uk).
  • The number of vacancies for the three months to March 2010 was 475,000  (Source: www.statistics.gov.uk).  This indicates that there is as little as 1 job for every 5 people.
Why are so many people unhappy with their job that they are looking for other careers?  Well, there’s a number of reasons.   However, it all boils down to one simple fact – they chose a job which wasn't in line with their own personality and temperament.  Just like being allergic to cats and getting a job as a lion tamer in a circus!

Why do people find it hard to get a job?  Again there are many reasons for this, such as:
  • Poorly constructed CV (or job applications)
  • Lack of confidence
  • Don't know where to look
  • Lack of qualifications (or even overqualified)
  • Difficult to get out of their 'comfort zone' because of long-term unemployment
  • The recession
Again this boils down to one main reason.  They haven't been shown the most efficient way.  Most job hunters are using the same very basic job search techniques.  This means there's more competition hence little success.

A solution is on hand

I  noticed that most people use technology in isolation and don’t use it to to solve problems or make their life easier for themselves.  For example, I’ve come across experienced office staff that have pretty good organisational skills but are poor at using their computer more efficiently.  For instance, I’ve been rather dismayed when I see them copy and pasting names and addresses into letters and individually printing them off.  On one occasion a young lady spent a whole day doing this whereas the same task could have been done in a matter of minutes.  No-one had shown her how to perform a mail-merge (i.e. using a template letter and extracting names and addresses from a database or spreadsheet).

The same applies to job hunters.  Many just use the Internet for browsing through jobsites each day and doing the same searches day in and day out.  No-one has shown them how to get search engines like Google to send them an email when an appropriate job is posted on the internet.  They also have no idea how to get freiends and acquaintances (even strangers) to subconsciously find work for them by including a small PS in their signature block.  They don’t realise that they can receive free voicemail and faxes (making it even easier for a prospective employer to contact them even when they are away from home).

I discovered this when I was asked to stand in for  job search trainers/coaches.  I’m not running down my colleagues because they are extremely good at what they do.  However, even they didn’t realise that many of their tasks could be leveraged efficiently - because no-one had even shown them before either!

I soon discovered ways of using freely available resources (many job seekers don’t know about) to make job hunting easier, more productive and even enjoyable!

It really started with my friend John.  He was utterly miserable in his job.  He worked long hours and hardly saw his wife and children even though they shared the same home.  He would travel to and from London every day.

Even when he travelled, there were hardly any seats available on the over-crowded train.  He worked long hours but, at least he could find a seat on the way back home but there were fewer trains and it meant waiting a while whenever he had just missed one.  Saturdays was spent recovering from the week's ordeal and the only quality time was Sunday.

This routine went on for a number of years until he was made redundant.  At first he was over the moon!  Suddenly he was able to see more of his family again.  The only trouble was his children were a little older and he missed their early years.  After a while, money started getting short and he desperately needed a job.

His wife was giving him a hard time about their lack of finances and how he should be out getting a job.  It didn't occur to her that she could be working too . . . but that is another story!  He attended a number of interviews but didn't get a job offer.  After a while, he felt totally demoralised and lost his self-confidence.

He was unqualified for many jobs and over qualified for others.  Although they wouldn't admit it, some interviewers took his age into consideration and felt he would not keep up with the younger employees.

In despair, John came to me, almost ready to break down.  He couldn't find the job he wanted locally and didn't want to travel to and from London again.  He felt useless and totally discouraged.  The Jobcentre was unable to help him.  Some of the jobs that were on offer (on their computer terminal) paid such low wages and he would have been better off working in a fast-food restaurant!  Added to which, the government cutbacks meant that places on a job search scheme were extremely tight and there was hardly any chance of him getting on one.

He came to me because he knew I had been helping others with their job search.  The trouble was that he was too proud to come to me earlier which meant that his self-esteem was running lower by the day.

So I came up with strategies to help John.  I didn't get much of a chance to see him again for several weeks.  However, the next time I saw him he was happier than ever!  He still didn't find the job he was after but found one he never even considered before and there were hardly any other candidates either.  It now takes twenty minutes to get to work (in contrast to an hour and a half).  He now sees much more of his family and his confidence is immeasurably better than before.

I was happy for him and also rather pleased with myself, but then I began to wonder . . .

Would my methods help others too?

I decided to go and test my 'system' on others, so I got some volunteers together, and asked them to follow my techniques and use them.

The results were very encouraging.  Of the 19 volunteers, 2 found a job within a week, another 11 within a month and a further 5 within three months. Only one couldn’t get a job within this time.  I know this was such a small test and further results may vary considerably.  Much depends upon the individuals concerned, the sort of job they’re after and their location. Having said that, I still think this was a resounding success.

Before long, word got out and others began coming to me for help.  Unfortunately, there are only so many hours in the day and I could not physically help everyone.  However, a colleague of mine suggested that I put my notes together in the form of a book.  I could help more people this way.

So how did John feel when he go a job so quickly?

He said that he never felt so good about himself for a long time.  Despite getting a couple of rejections he still considers this an achievement and feels so much more confident in himself.  He got a lot of praise from his friends and family and especially his wife who decided look for some part-time work for herself!  The last I heard, she was taken aback when she got a job offer within a couple of weeks and that was after being a housewife for so many years.

So let me show you some of the techniques that John benefitted from and now you can too . . .
  • Straightforward techniques that will enable you to get the job you want
  • Where to get free resources to enable you to achieve results FAST
  • Innovative methods some job hunters used to get interviews
  • Don't do this when setting up an email account
  • How to use planning applications to find unadvertised job openings
  • What you must carry with you when travelling to your interview
  • How to find what job suits your personality (this will surprise you)
Let me ask you a question . . .

What would it mean for you to get off the dole now?

I don't know how long you've been unemployed or dissatisfied with your current job, but since you are still reading this, I know you have tried a number of methods to find the right job but haven't managed it quite yet.  I also know that you are fed up with your current situation and want to make a fresh start.

Before you read any further, it would be a good idea to think about what it would really mean to you to get out of the rut.  I have spoken to many people about their experiences on the dole.
  • They have to explain why they haven't found a job since signing on a fortnight earlier.
  • Prove that they have been looking for a job.  You'd think they would realise there's a recession on at the moment wouldn't you?
  • Patronised by some Job Centre staff who probably have just left college or school themselves and suddenly they're an expert on job placements!
  • Their benefits have been delayed or applications got lost in the system.
  • Thee bills keep coming in and there isn't enough money to cover them all.
  • The children don't understand why their friends get the latest toys, games and designer clothes and yet thy're having to do with stuff from the market or car boot sale!
  • The marriages are strained because the number one problem is the lack of money coming in.
Once they found a decent paying job, all this changes and over a period of time things do actually brighten up again.  Wouldn't it be nice to spoil yourself by going on holiday again or going for the odd shopping spree without having to worry about how it's all going to be paid for.  Believe me when I tell you that I have been through this myself and I know what you're going through.

For John, his life turned around quite quickly and he was more than grateful that I was able to give him the support he desperately needed.  For others I have helped they started to regain their self-confidence and felt really good about themselves.  This was one of the key factors in them getting a job.  You see, so many job candidates who get as far as the interview stage are so desperate for work that it becomes too obvious.  You’d think a prospective employer would be happy to take on someone that is keen to work again.  Sadly this is not always the case.  Human nature takes over and the employers don't always take on 'desperate' people.  You need to get to the interview relaxed but assertive.  When you feel really good about yourself, landing a job is so much easier.  However, there is more to job search than this of course.  But it’s a start.

If you’re like others I’ve helped in the past, you’ll want to find more productive ways to land a job fast.  This is where I can help you too.  All the directions I have given others are contained within my book which is available from Amazon.
